A person’s wedding day is one of the most important events they will experience in their lifetime. The bride and groom work to make sure every detail is as perfect as possible. One of the most important decisions the couple will make in planning their wedding is choosing a photographer. Having beautiful pictures to recall their special day hinges on choosing a professional photographer who can offer them the best services. If you are planning your wedding day, allow these tips to help you choose the perfect wedding photographer to capture the memories of your special day.

1) It is imperative couples meet with potential photographers to ensure the photographer will be able to meet their needs and will have a positive attitude. Photographers that are not friendly and unwilling to answer questions will likely cause unwanted headaches for a couple on their day.

2) While a couple needs to adhere to their budget, choosing the cheapest photographer is generally not a good idea. Though this does not mean you have to hire the highest-priced photographer, price generally determines what level of expertise one can expect. Budget photographers will most likely give you “budget” results.

3) It is a good idea for couples to ask to view the portfolio of any photographer they are considering hiring. A photographer should be more than willing to share previous wedding photos so you can get a good idea of the type of photography work he or she does and whether or not that style will fit in with your expectations for your special day.

4) Before deciding on any photographer, couples need to ask questions so they are fully aware of the services they will be paying for. The couple needs to find out how long the photographer will provide services, what photo packages they will receive and whether or not they will receive CDs and DVDs of their wedding. A good photographer should offer a variety of choices and should put everything in writing in a contract to ensure the couple and photographer have entered into a legally binding contract.

Ideally, couples should begin searching for a wedding photographer as soon as possible after they set a date. This process should not be rushed to ensure you have plenty of time to meet with potential photographers and learn about the services they offer. With these tips, you can rest assured you will be able to find the perfect photographer to capture every blissful moment of your wedding day.

  1. These are great tips. I think it’s also important that the couple knows what they want in terms of style (soft, airy, moody etc.) and approach (candid, documentary, posed, traditional etc.) and access their prospective wedding photographers accordingly. Request to see portfolio that addresses your concerns (night time portraits, tricky reception lighting, posed portraits versus candid, natural portraits, city wedding versus country or outdoor wedding etc.).
